Hmm ... that description is pretty good. but I think you need to add a few rubber bands into the jello layer, as there is a bit more resistance when cutting than you'd get fromstraight jello ;-)

But, hey, you did good (and remember the one I mentioned doing in school, for class? the surgeon in our group for that one managed to cut into the globe itself - not fun.)
