Another Day

Happy birthday to me,
Happy birthday to me -
Happy birthday, dear self,
Happy birthday to me.

Well. 31 feels remarkably like 30, which is to say, older than I ever planned on being but still not quite old enough to feel like a grownup. I wonder if I ever will, or if someday I'll be eighty years old and trying to explain to my friends that I just don't feel mature and responsible enough to have kids yet.

About the only evidence I have that I'm getting older is the fact that, in spite of having tomorrow off, I'd rather curl up in bed right now and fall asleep than stay up all night eating ice cream and watching movies. On the other hand, that could have more to do with lack of sleep than impending age and responsibility....

well

Happy birthday, my friend... and don't worry. Lots of us seemingly responsible adults are making it up as we go along.

Chuckle; and yes, impending age does change what seems like supreme decadence; I'm not sure when staying up all night and eating ice cream and watching movies dimmed, but that one slipped by. But you have a day off tomorrow, a husband who loves you, and a world that's much brighter for your presence... I hope it's a good balance.

Happy Happy!

Never become a grownup. I've avoided it so far... you can, too!

Remember- adulthood means privilege. Grownup means responsibility.

Happy birthday and many happy returns!

FWNIW, I decided when I was 18 that my hopes of dying young just weren't going to pan out. 45 now....
