A Very Odd Request

I'm sure y'all know this by now, but as part of my activities in the SCA I've translated a 16th-century Italian dance manual into something vaguely resembling English. This translation is up on the web, but until now I didn't really think anyone had, y'know, noticed it.

I just got a fairly urgent email from a music student in Madrid, asking if I could possibly translate parts of it into Spanish so he can use it as a reference for a project.

Unfortunately, I read Spanish much better than I speak it, and at this point my Spanish and Italian are all muddled together in one big romance-languate mess in my head. And he needs it kinda pronto. Like, by Monday.

So I don't suppose anyone out there would be willing to translate a handful of dance steps into Spanish for me, and for him? I can send you cleaned-up English versions of the steps, so you won't have to work from the literal translations online, and I can promise you my gratitude (and, almost certainly, his as well).

Aside from the challenge, I just happen to find it intensely cool that other people are finding stuff I do useful.....

That's awesome!

You might want to try one of the Question Club communities on my LJ profile. They've helped me with odd requests tons of times. :) Good luck finding someone!

Mistress Belangere can do this translation easily -- I'm not sure about her contact info, I believe that she is in Towers. She came to the Bardic Ball... I would consider putting out a call for her on the Carolingia list.

On the off chance that Mistress Berengère can't do it, I have interpreters over in Nova Roma who might be able to. Let me know if you need me to ask.

This post reminded me...

I remember that I'm supposed to ask around on your behalf for someone who knows how to write dance notation. What I don't remember is the official name of the dance notation. Help!

Thanks. :)

My Dad's a retired professor of Romance languages. I'm sure he could do it easily. What I'm not sure of is if he could do it in time; he and Mom are in town, but it's a vacation with a lot of visiting of family and friends.

If you provide a link to the original Italian today, I could print it up and ask him about it tonight.
