I am always happy to promote Iceland as a great place to visit - everything deguspice just said, plus raving about the history, the language, the geology, the horses, etc. But you sound less interested in leaving the US, at least this time around, plus it's not so much a hot place during the cold months, so I won't without further encouragement.
