Storm Tragedy

All right. 2+ feet of snow on the ground, drifts all the way to the front door in spite of the six-foot-deep overhang on our porch, and a travel ban to keep us safe at home.

[livejournal.com profile] umbran and I thought we were prepared. We have batteries and lamp oil and paper goods, and milk and bread and eggs, and butter and flour and sugar for baking, and gallons of chili. I have crafty projects to work on. We have power, thank goodness, and there's a Walking Dead marathon on, and if we lose power there are books and blankets. We have everything we need. Except....

Except....

We are out of chocolate chips.

How the hell did I wind up snowed in, in a blizzard, with no chocolate chips? How am I supposed to bribe Awesome Snowblowing Neighbor without chocolate chip cookies?

Okay, we have milk chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips, and cinnamon chips. And there's always the thought of snickerdoodles. And I should just get to work baking bread, too, since my Even More Awesome Than The Neighbor Husband is about to go shovel.

But still. This is a tragedy, and a deep failure of planning on my part....

Do you have any baking chocolate bars?

Melt that with a bit of sugar added and it should pour out onto aluminum foil or wax paper and reform into sheets that can be broken up easily

The horror!

If I had snowshoes, I'd bring you some. But I don't, so I'll eat some in your honor.

In theory, depending on how things look in a little while, I may just walk my way over there. Apparently, the Stop & Shop at the bottom of the hill is open, today, which means I can secure some chocolate chips. It's three miles and the streets are pretty well-plowed from what I can see. They may have banned cars on the road, but they totally haven't banned walking...

Oh noes! Life must end!

This reminds me of the time when my cousin's roommate suggested that she make cookies, and she replied that she couldn't, because they were out of chocolate chips.

Well, did you at least stock up on the hot drinks? Teas, coffees, cocoa, whiskey and lemon?

I feel your pain...

You might be a purist, but if I were the Awesome Neighbor With A Snowblower, I wouldn't turn down homemade cookies, even if they were made with milk chocolate chips :-)
