A New Kind of Companion

So a little while ago, while I was at work, a very sweet lady brought in a pair of cats for their annual exams. They were big, beautiful adult cats, similar in age and markings. In an attempt to make small talk while waiting for the technician to bring the vaccines into the room, I started chatting with the client about her cats' histories - where did she get them from, how long had she had them, that sort of thing. And, in the course of the conversation, I asked her if the cats were littermates.

She paused and thought for a moment, then replied, "No - we have two boxes, and they use them separately."

I really had no idea of how to continue the conversation from there.....

*choke*

*gasp*

That's the best thing I've read all day.

"*snch* *snort* *choke* I'm sorry; I was inspecific. Are they siblings? From the same litter?"

I'm sure the customer would have turned a pretty shade of red... :)

That's pretty funny. :)

I actually did see an online quiz about whether one was a cat-fanatic or not, and one of the questions was "do you dream of dying at the same time as your cat, so you can both be reincarnated as littermates?" and I had the exact same thought, before I remembered the other meaning for "litter".

I can't figure out *why* you'd want you and your cats to be carried in the same mobile bed, though.

Which reminds me, we're contemplating adopting a pair of kittens later this summer and would like to get littermates. Are there any particular local shelters that you would recommend?
