Mapleicious

I want brunch.

I know it's fairly late in the evening, and I know that I just had dinner not too long ago and I shouldn't be hungry, but this isn't even particularly about hunger. I just want brunch.

I want to go to a restaurant with booths and laminated menus and specials of the day on a chalkboard. I want pancakes - a big stack of multigrain pancakes, maybe with chopped nuts in them, with real butter and real maple syrup. Not enough to soak and smother them, but just enough to make them a little bit sticky-sweet. I want bacon, and hot tea, and not to have to wash any dishes afterwards.

Instead, I'll have instant oatmeal tomorrow morning, on my way to work. And right now, I'll have a hot bath.

Maybe this weekend I'll finagle my way out to Bickfords. It's not cuisine, but... it's yummy.

mmmmm, I understand this desire. I have to share a good breakfast experience I had last weekend in Portland, Maine. I had one of the best breakfasts for dinner I've ever had at a new to me chain, <a=href"http://www.eggspectation.ca/">Eggspectation. It blows Bickfords out of the water. To be fair it was also more expensive then Bickfords by 40-50%, well worth the higher quality though. It looks like they only have a few locations in the US as of yet, the one in Portland being the closest. Give them a try if you ever see one.

[livejournal.com profile] quietann and I have a friend we get together with for "Breakfast for Dinner" at the local IHOP (Tewksbury) every couple of months. We'd love to include you in our plans, or perhaps join you for a trip to the local Bickfords (we're going to be in Somerville Sunday evening for an Arisia meeting, so dinner/brunch before the meeting is a possibility).

Or if you're willing to go a bit further for brunch, there's The Friendly Toast in Portsmouth, NH. They're open 24 hours on the weekend, and have great sweet potatoe fries.

the neat thing about 24hr breakfast places is that you can have brunch anytime you want :)

I assume the number that ends in "4518" is no longer in use?
