I Am So SMRT!

Autumn is slowly starting to sneak up on us here in New England, and one of the first signs of this is that the nights are going from chokingly muggy and hot to (for small critters like myself) alarmingly chilly.

A few nights ago, later than I should have been awake but earlier than I was able to go to sleep, I was pulled out of a half-drowse in bed to answer a call of nature. So I emerged from under my comfy, cozy stack of blankets and wandered from the safe, warm carpeted floor of my bedroom across the safe, warm carpeted floor of the hall, and onto the frigid, cruel floor of the bathroom.

As I leaped reflexively onto my tiptoes, my still mostly-muzzy, groggy mind started grumping about the situation, and speculating on how nice it would be to have some kind of portable carpet or fabric that one could attach to one's feet, to take with them onto cold, carpetless floors and allow them to stay warm and comfy in the chilliest situation.

I was back in the bedroom and about to explain my brilliant idea to my husband before I realized that, genius that I am, I had just invented socks.....

Oh, that's wonderful! I can see myself doing something like that, in my sleep.

That makes perfectly good sense.

Well, somebody had to.

Or slippers.

I was thinking that too. Much better than having to leave your feet swaddled in cloth to get the effect. I can't sleep with socks on, and don't want to take the time to put them on for a call of nature.

"I had just invented socks."

I think that is called "fuzzy brained."

At least you didn't start yelling for your brave husband to come save you from the vicious lightning bug that was terrorizing a draped table as you happened to wake up ("KILL IT! KILL IT!")....

We thank you for your great invention. We will now think of you every time we make use of socks.

you know, that's a great idea... but smooth floors are often slippery... maybe you need a harder part on the bottom, some traction there.

you could call it something that involved "slip".

...

nah, it'll never work.
