First Things First
OK. As much as I'd like to start working on analyzing and fixing the inside of my head, apparently the universe has different priorities.
About 15 minutes into my shift at work today, I managed to get myself bitten by a cat. Not a particularly large or vicious cat; those I know how to avoid. Just a slightly impertinent, small, cute cat. But she snagged me with a pair of puncture wounds, right on either side of my right wrist.
They're teeny, and not too deep, but by the time I made it out of clinics and into the Urgent Care office, they were starting to swell up and turn red, and stabby pain had started to spread up and down my arm. I'm now on horse-choking doses of antibiotics, and under doctor's orders to keep my right arm splinted and elevated as much as possible.
Which means, among other things, that typing is a royal pain in the butt. So no long introspective meandering posts from me for the next several days. Also, minimal email, and slow IM'ing. Plus no stitching or crocheting.
Looks like I'm going to get a lot of reading done....

Best wishes for a good recovery. I assume that, from a vet, "horse-choking doses of antibiotics" is no mere figure of speech.

You'd think, by now, you have extra-duper anti-animal-infection antibodies.
I hope you recover soon!

Should we cancel lunch plans for Friday?

By the way, where do you want to meet? I can get you at the airport, though I might be late, or I can call when I'm done with my meeting and we can figure stuff from there...

Looking forward to seeing you! *hug*

Serious stuff. My ex and I were rescuing a HBC cat, he got a bite into my ex's hand before we got the towel over him. Near a knuckle. That was Sunday. Lucky thing he happened to have a doc appt. the next morning. He didn't think it was at all serious, but the doc sent him to a hand specialist straightaway, do not pass go, do not collect $200. He started antibiotics within an hour or two of that? 2 days later he was in surgery, they cleaned it to the bone. He was on IV antibiotics for weeks, IIRC. He regained most of the flexibility in the hand by sheer determination, even the specialist (one of the very best, we heard) was surprised at his recover. Some permanent damage, but minimal.
It doesn't take much. I'm glad you got treated immediately. Please keep us posted, we do care.

At least it's not a finger joint (and hopefully not a tendon sheath, either).
Good luck, and get better soon!

A few weeks ago, a friend of ours (a very experienced trainer) was kicked by a horse (both hooves) and nearly killed. He'd bent over to check the hoof of an old gelding out in the pasture and a four year old mare who shares the pasture with that gelding came over and let him have it for no apparent reason. He lost his spleen and a kidney, but after several weeks in the hospital he's expected to recover in all other ways.
Our younger cat has behaved so badly at the vets office that she's no longer allowed to be there without one of us around to handle her. Surprisingly, she's always been as meek as a kitten with us.

Our vet friend g bitten by a rabid cat a few months ago. Owner opted to have it put down, but the doc had to file a report, chop off the head and everything. Freaky stuff.

So, if talking on the phone about Life, the Universe, and Everything would help, let me know.

If you want to hang out with someone, here or there, to help relieve the boredom (assuming I wouldn't add to it... :)), give a shout.

Those are the ones you need to watch out for.

Now - practicality. Will you be up and running by Halloween?
