The Woes of Winter

This winter is wreaking hell on my personal fashion.

I'm not quite a clotheshorse - I don't care about cost or trendiness or anything like that. But, well, I do like to look nice. Put-together. Even when I'm not working, I try to at least dress well so I look good for my husband, and respectable and neat when I go to the bank or the grocery.

However, right now, 'good' and 'respectable' and 'neat' have taken a backseat in favor of 'not frozen into a blue, shivering wreck.' Especially given that, since I'm home all day, it would start costing us a pretty penny to keep the house at comfy temperatures, instead of the usual noone's-home level.

I'm not quite ashamed of how I'm dressed, but... it'll be nice to be able to wear pretty skirts and lace tops again, or even light sweaters.

(This message brought to you by today's wardrobe - black and hot pink socks with little flowers and yellow duckies, silk longjohns, gray sweatpants, a hugely oversized patchwork polar fleece pullover... and gold and topaz dolphin earrings, left over from my jaunts out to visit new clinics this morning. I look like the Littlest Hobo.)

Got any spare carboys lying around? Fill them full of water and put them somewhere where they will be warmed. This will increase the thermal constant of your house, and it will take longer to cool down (and longer to heat up).

Consider making some interior storm windows, especially if you windows are leaky. Here is my design: http://www.midcoastgreencollaborative.org/Documents/storm_pamphlet.pdf

Seal air leaks (like outlets and the pipes from the basement).

I dunno, I mean... the hobo look can be kind of hot in the right hands.

Sounds similar to my look and for the same reasons. I'm really loving the thigh high stripy socks I got at Lunacon and Arisia - they are toasty!
