Counting My Blessings
Every once in a while I take a look at my life and wonder how on earth I was lucky enough to wind up where I am today. There are so many ways in which I am blessed - husband, home, career, opportunities... but today, what stands out in my mind the most are my friends.
Somehow, in spite of growing up shy and awkward and not really knowing how to interact with my fellow humans, I have found myself surrounded by some of the most amazing, thoughtful, talented, kind, and fascinating people I can imagine. And for reasons I can't quite fathom, they have all chosen to share themselves with me. They help me. They stand by me when I need support. They teach me, they create things for me, and they act as mirrors to reflect back the brightest and best parts of me when I can't see them for myself.
When I started writing this, at first I wanted to say that I didn't know what I had done to earn this, or how I could ever repay it, but as the words come together, I have to admit that friendship isn't a commodity that can be bought or paid for - you can't turn in three Good Person Tokens for one unit of Friendship, and being someone's friend doesn't put you in their debt. There's a responsibility that comes with it, yes, a give-and-take, but... not like that.
So I'll just restate how lucky I am, and how grateful I am for all of you, reading this or not, who have given me the gift of your presence in my life, and I will do my level best to be as good a friend to all of you as you are of me, and to be the kind of person who merits such wonderful people in her world.

Of course not. You just keep racking up those tokens and making us jealous. :-)
I've counted myself lucky because someone as cool as you is always happy to see me.
