Today

Sometime between Midnight and 6am: Start having stress nightmares about next week's play. Forgotten lines, forgotten cues, lost in the balcony of the theater, and realizing halfway through the first scene that, instead of Henry V, show has morphed into a bizarre alternate variation of 'Midsummer Night's Dream.'

6:00am: Woken up by cat trying to chew my fingernails for me. Manage to shoo cat onto husband and fall back asleep.

6:30am: Woken up by alarm clock. Curse the hour-plus commute that requires me to get up at this hour.

7:30am: Leave for work. Remember that I need cash for tolls, and that I am flat broke other than the handful of nickels in the car's change holder. Beg $1 in quarters from ever-patient husband.

7:35am: Stuck in traffic. Try an alternate route to dodge traffic. Dodge into worse traffic. Thank all the powers that be that I stuck an extra half hour of wiggle-time into driving plans; I should still be at work on time.

8:35am: Traffic gets worse. Realize that I am still at least 40 minutes from office, and I'm supposed to be there at nine. Decide to call office and inform them that I'm running late.

8:36am: Realize that my cell phone is still at home charging. Curse creatively.

9:15am: Arrive at work. Cranky Tech has already called my cell phone and, not getting an answer, called boss and informed her that I ditched work and am unreachable. Boss is peeved. Explain that I was stuck in traffic, and had cell phone problems, and am not, in fact, a no-good shirking scoundrel. Tech looks skeptical.

9:16am: Pull hair into ponytail, pull on lab coat and stethoscope, and glance over schedule for the day. Realize that, while I only have 5 appointments, 3 of them are between 9am and 9:30am.

9:35am: Bitten by fractious cat who is not up to date on rabies vaccine while in the process of examining her. Decide to stop all chronicles of day there, because really, it's not going to get any better.

I'd just give up and go to sleep, but aside from the fact that I don't want to be reliving my pre-show jitters again, I'm almost afraid to miss out on whatever new convolutions of crazy the universe might throw at me.....

Just for a second, I read "fractious" as "frabjous".

Sorry - that's standard vet-speak, mostly because it sounds nicer and more professional in medical records than 'evil.' :)

The terminology gets into your speech pattern, and it's hard to shake loose.....

Not a problem - I do the same thing with nonsensical Jabberwocky terms.

I don't get to watch SYTYCD any more, since I work weeknights (like right now, for example). Bummer. Anyway, enjoy the show and the enchiladas. :)

I hope that your day improves.

Thanks. :) I'm pretty sure it will; if nothing else, I have enchiladas in the oven and So You Think You Can Dance on tv tonight. Things could be much worse.

It is a law of the universe that when you are running late, either your cell phone is dead, you'll have forgotten a pass,...

(Now, if I can just formulate that nicely, we might have [livejournal.com profile] fractalgeek's third law)

Hope the rest of the week is better!

Sorry about that

Somebody knocked the lid off the Cauldron of Suckitude again. Apparently, none
of the staff noticed it until one of the interns put it back on.

We intend to investigate this incident with our usual vigor.

The Mgt.
