Help Me, Internets!

So I've been debating back and forth over this for three days, and can't make up my mind (yes, I know it's silly to be dithering so extensively over something so small and ridiculous, but this is what happens when I have spare time and mental energy), so... I put it to y'all to make up my mind for me:

Should I buy myself the black wrap dress I found at the secondhand store this weekend?

Pro: it fits
Con: it's a lot shorter than I first thought it was when I saw it on the rack

Pro: it's on sale at the secondhand store for next to nothing
Con: did I mention it's *really* short? Like, when I'm standing with my arms relaxed, my fingers come further down than the hem.

Pro: I don't have a lot of short-sleeved dresses in my wardrobe
Con: I do have a lot of black dresses already

Pro: it's versatile
Con: I'll probably never actually wear it.

Pro: just buy the damn thing already!
Con: WAAH I'm afraid!

So.... cast the deciding vote and alleviate me of any responsibility?

Edited to add: That answers that question. Took the car in for a $30 oil change and just got a call from the dealer saying that it needs over $600 of emergency services to be able to drive it home. I'm not going to be able to buy myself groceries for the next month, let alone dresses I don't need.

Damnit.

Buy it.

Buy it. And wear it in good health! (If it's really too short for you to wear it comfortably, use it as a tunic over pants.)

Short black dress.

Your legs.

What's the problem? ;)

It fits and it's cheap.

Con: I'll probably never actually wear it.

This was my first thought. Don't buy it. Instead, get something you'd feel comfortable wearing.

Buy it. You'll look great in it.

And I just can't resist this . . .

Con: did I mention it's *really* short?

I think that's a Pro:, not a Con:. :)

Buy! Buy! Buy! Then wear to con. :)

Buy it! If you find in time that it's too short for comfort, you can easily find something awesome to sew along the hem to lengthen it. :)

I'd say to buy it. It's inexpensive and there will be some day when you remember "a lot of people want to see me in this, and it will feel awesome to make their dreams come true!"

[identity profile] gyzki.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I say buy it - it costs next to nothing.
And then do wear it sometime.

Buy it! Buy it!

> I'll probably never actually wear it.

It's more important that you throw your money at progress towards your own comfort level than throwing it at satisfying the prurient interests of me and some other members of your audience. Unless, as janetmiles suggests, it would make a good tunic. Or perhaps a good scarf :>

I keep seeing younger women wearing very short, solid colored dresses over cute leggings. That is probably just a trend, but I suspect you'd look great in it!

[identity profile] pagawne.livejournal.com 2010-08-10 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you would look great in it, with or without leggings.

However, seems the car has made the question moot. BTDT all too often.

Does that $600 also include repairing your AC?
I'm so sorry, hon. Doesn't it always feel like one step forward, two back?
*hug*

Sorry to hear about the car. I sympathize- I just had a massive car repair bill myself.

Otherwise, I would have recommended that you buy the dress...

Aww. *hugs*

Sorry for the edit - we've been dealing with some of that lately too.

Buy it! Every woman should, at some point in her life, own a dress that's so shockingly seductive she's afraid to wear it outside her home.

You can, after all, wear it inside your home, for special occasions.

(a) STart car being fixed by someone.
(b) buy groceroies.
(c) buy the dress
(d) call me and we will work something out to keep you fed, mobile , and clad.
