Dress You Up In My LARP

And now, your annual chance to dress [livejournal.com profile] ladysprite up in your clothes and watch what happens!

(No, nothing tawdry; I am in serious need of some costuming help for Intercon in March, and would appreciate any help anyone could offer.)

Item 1: I have been cast as a "saloon girl" in an Old West-style game. Being one of perhaps five women in fandom/gaming who does not own a corset, this is proving rather difficult to pull off with just the stash in my costume closet. I have some mediocre stuff that could work in a pinch, if I could borrow a crinoline, but that's a last resort.

So, does anybody have anything... well, saloon-girl-y, in a size smallish, that I could borrow? Or, barring that, a crinoline?

Item 2: Does anybody have a set of fairy wings that I could borrow? I'd be more than willing to buy my own, but given how far we are from Halloween and Ren Faire season, they're proving a bit hard to find.

Thanks in advance, and payment offered in the form of gratitude, praise, and baked goods.....

I have a pair of very tiny fairy wings. Probably about a foot and a half across that go on with elastics like the world's flimsiest backpack. I also have a pair of black crinolines I am unlikely to use for my current casting in my games.

Do you want me to bring them?

[identity profile] ladymondegreen.livejournal.com 2011-02-14 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
NB, the crinolines are very short, like, well above the knee.

We've got a selection of fairy wings :-)

Michelle's got a whole bunch of them. Obviously, some will be too small for you, but she's got some larger ones as well that you might like.

Wanna come over some evening and see if anything appeals to you?

https://www.corsetwholesale.com/

They have relatively inexpensive corset and crinoline type skirts as well. I haven't bought one yet, but my friends who have say their quality is excellent.

I have some purple sparkly rather large fairy wings, if you want to borrow them. They will probably be huge on you, and may need the elastics reattached.

I have to admit surprise that you have neither a corset nor fairy wings.

I do not have either to lend, but this way I get to wave hello to ladymondegreen!!!!!!

And to you, of course!!!!!

That would be awesome, thank you!

This weekend is a little busy, but I'm free after that....

I can understand why you'd think I'd have wings, but why on earth are you surprised that I don't have a corset?

Stories which contain lines like, "This is [your real name] and she's a dominatrix! HIC!" tend to lead one to think you might own such a thing....possibly in leather. :)

I'd love to help you, but let's face it, if we dressed you up in my clothes it would just appear that you'd decided to go camping and couldn't afford a proper tent. :)

You said it yourself:

That's all. ;)

I'll see if I can find my corset? If I can find it you can use it but I'm really not sure where it is or what happened to it so finding it may come as a challenge. Also, it's *purple* leather...

Glad to hear that - I was about to tell her that crinolines - or, at least, what most costumers understand to be crinolines - are not for saloon girls! :-)

Worry, not, I *do* know what I'm talking about. I have a dress that I can make work in a pinch, but the skirt would need more volume. I need something to wear under the skirt and add fullness.

That's what I'm looking for, and from my understanding, that item is called a crinoline.....

Whether or not this is historically accurate for historically accurate saloon girls, it's as close as I can get to anything even vaguely appropriate. The next option is either wearing jeans and a t-shirt, or dropping out of the game.....

Next week is pretty open for us. Monday late afternoon/evening could work as could just about any other evening. Email me to confirm a time and I'll ask Michelle to dig out all of the different wings she has.

On this recommendation, I went to the site, and bought a lovely black and purple brocade corset, with a long, flouncy black skirt. The corset, with shipping, was a fraction of the price I paid for my custom-made Edwardian underbust corset. What astounded me, aside from how quickly I got the darned thing, was how very well it was put together. I used to sew a lot, back in the dark ages of the 70's, and my mother and sister are incredible seamstresses, so believe me, I know whereof I speak. My "cheap" corset is every bit as sturdy and built-to-last as my *very* expensive custom job.

To be fair, the skirt is clearly meant for a woman seven feet tall, as I have to pull the waistband clear up to my armpits to keep it from dragging the ground *too* badly, but if I ever need to dress like a 1971 hippie chick, this will be a *great* dress for it. And the skirt is absolutely gorgeous. I may ask my sister some time to remover one of the panels so I can wear it as meant, but hell, with some creative pinning, I can make it look like it has a bustle when it doesn't, AND keep it from dragging through the mud.

So, did you want the rather short crinolines and the wings? Packing list wants to know!

Waves hi!

[identity profile] ladysprite.livejournal.com 2011-03-01 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Crinolines and wings no longre needed - thank you for the offer!

I am glad you have found them. :)

See you soon!
