Realizations And Confusion

(Upon being told by a friend to 'just wear something that makes me feel pretty')

Aside from the fact that I don't actually own anything that falls into that category.... When did I go from being a girl who felt closest to attractive in long ruffly skirts and drape-y tops to a girl who feels closest to attractive in jeans and a tank top?

I'm not usually a casual-clothes sort of person, or at least I don't think of myself that way. So this realization is a bit odd, and I'm not quite sure what it means, if anything....

(Yes, I still adore long skirts and pretty dresses - but they're more likely to trigger a 'this dress is gorgeous' reaction in my mind than 'this is what I should wear to feel good about myself....')

Brains are weird.

Take your hubby shopping and bring home the dress that makes him whistle or drool. :)

I think its pretty cool that you're shifting to a more casual definition of personal acceptance. Pretty dresses are pretty in their own art sense, you feeling pretty as a person in your daily wear is really, really good.

Brains are definitely weird. Recently I've been pushing away a lot of my nicer clothes and not caring about makeup. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because I'm more comfortable at my job.

I will admit, when it comes to pretty I find a dress or skirt that flares and swishes makes me feel pretty even if I don't think I look pretty. I think it's because it changes as I move, and therefore is pretty if I twirl when I dance. I know a lot of my dancing makes me look ridiculous, but it makes me feel pretty.

Recently yoga clothes, although sloppy in some respects, have made me feel pretty. I think it's because they flow, and also because the yoga I'm doing is helping my body be healthier. I feel prettier when I feel healthy.

It may simply mean you're becoming more comfortable in your every day body and don't have to dress up to feel pretty.

I suspect changes in fashion are a culprit too - my taste for flounce has diminished steadily since the 80s, and casualwear is becoming more and more accepted as OK in situations and places where it wouldn't have been 10 or 20 years ago. (Designer track suits as formalwear? Gucci sneakers? Oy.)

At the risk of seeming crude, perhaps some part of your subconscious recognizes that big ruffly skirts, unlike properly fitting blue jeans, completely obscure one of the best bits of your chassis. (Hey, you said it yourself a while back. :)

But properly fitting tight skirts....
