Re-Remembering

A few years ago, umbran, jadasc, and I wrote a kind of wacky, kind of awesome LARP called 'Desperadoes Under The Eaves.' It was based on the music of Warren Zevon, and it ran at Intercon.... I can't remember which Intercon. It went pretty well, all things considered. And then that was it.

Except it's been a little while, and we're finally thinking of running it again. Thinking about it strongly enough that I'm working on putting a bid together for Intercon M, and going back through the characters and the spreadsheets and making notes to myself about what needs to be fixed, tweaked, or rewritten, and treating myself to a steady diet of Zevon music.

And as I go through and reread and sort through hundreds of pages of material, all I can think is... we did this? We did ALL this?

....whoa.

I mean, it's not *that* big a deal. People who read this write bigger, better, and more games all the time; it's not a truly epic accomplishment. But that said, for someone who had never written a game before, who promised she never would, and who only did this because after five years of shopping the idea around I couldn't find anyone to do it for me.... it wasn't half bad.

I really do hope we manage to get this game to run again.

I really hope I can make it to Intercon M. I've been telling pecunium about this game and how I want to play in it, but there's a pretty good chance that Intercon M will conflict with Consonance, where I am a guest.

That being said, I am really pleased that you're running it again! It deserves to be out in the world.

And yeah, I know what you mean. It seems like work while you are writing a game, but later on when you look at it again a full game is amazing and huge. How many sheets did we write? How did we pull this off? I forgot all about X, Y and Z! These labors of love are pretty amazing.

It was a fun, strange game. (And got me listening to a lot of Zevon's music.) A very good time, even if I did manage to make just about the most perfect mistake ever; a re-run sounds like a great idea...

Amazing how much builds up from compiling a lot of little efforts.

Never marginalize your own efforts as no big deal. Because whether or not you would apply the word 'epic', it's still a big deal, because now there is this... this -thing- that didn't exist before. And any act of creation; biological, creative, accidental, or other, is a pretty damn big deal for resulting in things that didn't exist before.

And yes, games that awesome should run again.
