Gratitude, Victory, and Acquisitions

...wow, you guys are good.

Two months of searching, and no luck. 48 hours after lamenting and whining on social media, and your hopes and wishes and support apparently changed the tides of fate. Friday afternoon a shelter we hadn't previously encountered responded to our (unhopeful) phone call with the answer that yes, they had an entire litter of kittens looking for homes, and would we like to set up a meeting at 11am on Saturday?

So, in between morning errands and afternoon tickets for 'Book of Mormon' (which is the best show I've seen in years, but that's another story), we hurried down to the adoption center, and came home with two new family members.

Yeah, we got two. So they can entertain each other instead of torturing my adult cat.

Little boy

and little girl.

They're brother and sister, about 10 weeks old. They haven't quite been named yet, though front-runners for names are either John Carter and Dejathoris or Harrison and Harlequin (and bonus geek points to anyone who can name all the sources). We're open to suggestions, though, if you have any ideas for awesomely cool geeky name pairs (while I love Kay and Gerda, I have decided that's just TOO obscure).

Elder Statescat is in a huff and a tizzy and a sulk all at once; he hissed and moaned at the babies for about five minutes before snorting a bunch of catnip and running upstairs to pout. So the babies are living in Moxie's old room for now, with supervised runaround time downstairs - I figure it'll take a few weeks for things to smooth over.

It feels so good to have more than one cat in the house again...

It might be an obvious set of names, but Bart and Lisa is what came to mind. The boy's attitude in the first picture makes me think of Bart. OTOH, the girl is very cute and fluffy.

John Carter and Dejathoris are easy. But I'm afraid I don't recognize Harlequin and Harrison

Kay and Gerda would be The Snow Queen, but I don't recognize where Harrison and Harlequin come from.

And YAY! Kittehs! :) So glad you found some.

If I were naming them, I'd be sorely tempted to call them Thor (boy) and Loki (girl), and never mind the genderbending. OTOH, we do have a Loki right now, and... let's just say he was an excellent example of "be careful what you summon" for a while. :-)

Other ideas: Logan & Mariko, Estel & Arwen, Robin & Marian, Chaz & Hafidha (possibly too obscure), Barnabas & Josette.

My primary associations for "Harlequin" are either Punch & Judy or Batman, and neither of those is helping with "Harrison".

[identity profile] deguspice.livejournal.com 2013-04-28 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Loki did some gender bending on his own. At one point he became a mare and eventually gave birth to Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged horse.

Samson and Delilah (maybe, depending on behaviour)
Jack and Trixie (https://decoderringtheatre.com)
Clark and Lois
Nick and Nora (The Thin Man by Hammett)

Hello, beauties! Welcome!

They look awesome! Their eyes are so vibrant.

I'm not sure what good names for them would be, but if you wanted to give them last names as a pair, you could call them the Fenuccis.

Hooray and marvelous! I'm so glad this worked out!

Repent, Harlequin! Said the TickTock man.... (perhaps not) Glad to see your quest come to fruition, or felinition? I was surprised to hear of how hard it was to find kittens. I wonder if the adopting agencies sift through the social media like employers do? Out here, we are lousy with kittens, but I am not prepared to adopt one now.. too many hours spent being at work.

We have cat issues, though. A local Tom is marking on our porch and raising a stink. We relocated a Momcat to a nearby farm where she was quickly adopted into a good home. Tom is still coming around. Coyote urine has not helped (nor human, heh heh)

Look for a citrus-oil based deodoriser (I found one years ago called "Citrus Magic"). It does a good job on the stink, and the cats generally don't like it, and won't come back to respray.

Kay and Gerda would be awesome, though! It was also the only reference I solidly got, so my geek cred is pretty poor.

I'm for Kay and Gerda too, but then, I do stuff like this

Wait.. Why is Kay and Gerda too obscure? It's the only one I get!!!!

Harrison and Harlequin -- Harrison Bergeron and the Harlequin from Repent Harlequin said the Ticktockman?

High five! Two heroes who are too smart for their own good and make it their life's goal to bring chaos to an overly-ordered world....

[identity profile] deguspice.livejournal.com 2013-04-29 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure you want to encourage cats to bring (more) chaos into your life.

[identity profile] cjsmith.livejournal.com 2013-04-28 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing wrong with Kay and Gerda! :) <3

[identity profile] cyan-blue.livejournal.com 2013-04-28 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
Awwwww :D

BTW, holding two purring kittens up to either ear and listening to them in stereo is one of the most awesome sounds in the universe...

Kittens! I am not a great cat-namer but wow... kittens!

I miss not having a black or ginger cat...

CUTE!

[identity profile] gmkieran.livejournal.com 2013-04-29 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats on kitteh findin's! Sadly, John Carter is the only one I got right. I haven't thought of Harrison Bergeron in *decades*! Really should re-read that. I don't see anything wrong with Kay and Gerda, but then I think getting to explain them (if you have to) would be a fun opportunity to expose people to their origins. The black one looks like a Bear to me - not geeky, I know, but there we are.

*hugs*!!!

[identity profile] dagibbs.livejournal.com 2013-04-29 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for cute kitties! :)

[identity profile] vettecat.livejournal.com 2013-04-29 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

[identity profile] johnpalmer.livejournal.com 2013-04-30 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, they are beautiful! (But - brother and sister? they must be *purebreds* with such similar markings! :-))

I'm terrible at naming cats - mine are still "you with the blue collar" and "you with the green collar". I can reliably tell them apart from up close, now. But names will be tricky.

[identity profile] evcelt.livejournal.com 2013-04-30 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Kitties!

What makes you think they won't gang up on the adult cat?

How about Zan and Jayna? ;-)

If they were both boys, I'd suggest Hunahpu and Xabalanque.

[identity profile] rickvs.livejournal.com 2013-05-01 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
You beat me to Zan and Jayna :>

Oooh -- cute! Congratulations on the new bundles of fun...
