I've Had Better Weeks
No silks last week (holiday). No silks this week - bronchitis.
My better half came home from San Francisco with a fairly mighty head cold. I managed to avoid getting it until after Thanksgiving, but within 48 hours of the holiday, the combination of family stress, fatigue (I haven't been sleeping well for weeks), and my general susceptibility to upper respiratory bugs overwhelmed my best efforts to stay healthy.
Since then I've been epically miserable.
I'm used to colds. I'm used to bronchitis. This is some weird mutant super-disease that has sapped me of my ability to do anything. Seriously, today is the first day that I've really had the energy to type. I can't take a deep breath. I've almost completely lost my voice. Reading takes too much concentration. My abs ache constantly because I spend most of my time doubled over with racking coughing fits.
Both yesterday and today I went in to work (because I don't really get sick days), only to be sent home by staff who were scared that I'd hurt myself if I stayed.
I miss having a life. I miss being up in the air - but I don't have the wind or the strength to climb, and if I started coughing 20 feet aboveground it'd be a disaster. I miss working on my new practice - but I don't have the focus to work on it, and I can't make phone calls to relevant individuals when I'm alternating between whispering and coughing. Hell, I miss my hobbies, but I keep dropping my crochet hook.
Thank god for Netflix. I've made it through almost all of Season 4 of Buffy; rewatching is about all I have the attention span for right now....
