The first day at my new office is over, and I have survived. I find it painfully pathetic that in one day at this clinic, without a client base of my own and working as a newcomer to an established two-doctor team, I've seen more appointments than I did in my entire last week at my old job. It's probably a sign that I've made a very, very good choice.

It's also a sign that I'm out of practice. I'm not used to actually being busy, and keeping paper records is an exercise in time-consuming, hand-cramping meticulousness (meticulosity?) that I'm going to have to get used to quickly. As it was, I managed to only fall slightly behind, and I'm sure that I'll pick up speed once I get used to the setting and the flow and where things are, but slow is still slow.

As is becoming traditional, my first day involved paperwork (a lot), random exploring (a moderate amount), seizures (is there ever a decent amount?), and death (a personal favorite). It's spooky and I could wish for a better signature start to things, but at least it guarantees that I start every job knowing where the emergency drugs and controlled substances are stored.

I'm still feeling vaguely like I'm trying to juggle live cats, and that the world is getting away from me no matter how hard I try to catch up. I thought it would be instantly magically better by now, but apparently instant gratification takes time. Maybe once I've gotten into a routine here life will stop overwhelming me....

Are you accepting new patients? It's not urgent in the slightest, but I'd like Selene to have a vet, rather than a place I take her to get shots.

It could just be me, but I'm thinking that juggling live cats is a useful skill for a vet to have. At the very least it keeps things amusing in the back rooms when times are slow :-)

Glad the day went well (or at least familiarly).

First days at new jobs always have a little of the overwhelming aspect, at least, frequently that's the most prominent characterisitc. It sounds like you did well on your first day, so don't let that feeling win. One day at a time will get you to where you are comfortably coping with the demands of your new job.
Yay on the signs that it was indeed a good decision you made to change jobs for the better! :)
*hugs*

Congrats on surviving your first day! Thanks for the link to the clinic's site. I've added it to my favorites list, so I can see when they add you. :-)
