All my life's a circle....
Dec. 25th, 2001 10:13 pmThe Ourobourous-like nature of society's trend machine never ceases to amaze and amuse me.
I just saw a commercial for the latest, hippest, coolest option for people who feel that in-line skates are far too passe and uncool - they're called '4Wheelers.'
Regular. Darn. Rollerskates.
You know, the clunky fat things you wore in roller rinks at birthday parties when you were in junior high school, zipping around in circles while the current one-hit wonders crooned 'Red, Red Wine?' The same exact things that were declared to be passe and uncool, paving the way for trendy, hip new inline skates.
Damnit, it's too soon! I'm not nostalgic for rollerskates yet! I'm too busy still being nostalgic for My Little Ponies and Herself the Elf (and why the heck hasn't she returned to chic with the current retro fads?). Still, it's amusing to catch yet another reminder that, while there still may be new things to be discovered, they probably won't be found in pop culture...
