Happiness Is.
Dec. 1st, 2002 05:36 pmFew things in this world are more rewarding than triumphing over a bad day. Some days just start out foul - cold toes and sweaty blankets, out of breath from running away from nightmares. Missing one ingredient from every one of my favorite coffeecake recipes. Best black velvet jeans missing in action. Every possible ally having previous plans. Icy wind cutting through the skirt I dug out to replace the missing jeans.
But somehow, at some point, things just turned around. Scheduling space for Arisia finally seems to be pulling together. Wandering around the hotel without the con filling things up is an eerie but fun experience, as is loitering in the halls with friends I haven't had the chance to get to know near well enough.
It's evening now, or at least it feels like evening, with the mirrorlike blackness outside my window. I can hear the wind and see the frost out there, but it's toasty-warm inside, and I've got plenty of tea to fortify me against the chill if I need to go out later. There's a pot of chili burbling on the stove, making the house smell heavenly and comforting. My favorite radio show is on, and I've got enough space to bounce around my room when the music is right. Friends will be arriving soon, with back-episodes of Buffy and Firefly to watch. I've got stitchery projects that are almost finished, and my sweetie to curl up next to tonight. What more could I possibly ask for?
