I'm really far more lucky than I usually recognize, which is a problem that I'm striving to correct. Whether or not I'm actually fond of the place where I work, I still have the career of my dreams, and the best overall job I can imagine.
And why is this? Because no matter how bad my day is, no matter how hypocritical my coworkers may be and how stressful the situation, no matter how empty my schedule and my bank account, I can always forget it for a few minutes by wandering into the cat ward and picking up an adorably fluffy and loving Persian kitten and passing the afternoon cuddling him. Especially when the kitten in question has the loudest purr I've ever heard, and a habit of tucking his chin around my wrist and wrapping his hugely fluffy tail up under his chin.
Even the worst day pales in the face of this kind of therapy, and after that the problems just seem rather weak and grubby and ineffectual. Kittens are almost as good as penguins for shattering bad moods....
