Caught Up

For the first time in longer than I can remember, I have nothing to do. It's an odd feeling, but actually a lot nicer than I thought it would be. I've been busy enough to satiate my desperate need to be doing Something Important at all times, and I actually have a chance to catch my breath and look around.

I don't have to be at work. No 14-hour shift, no alarm clock waking me up at dawn, no struggling with coworkers. I'm at a pausing point in wedding planning - the caterers have our menu, the people responsible for the bridesmaid's shoes have been bludgeoned into cooperation, the decorations for the arch are bought, the honeymoon is planned. Next week we'll be meeting with the jeweler and I'll start fittings for my dress, but right now there's nothing to do but wait for response cards to come in.

I don't have any major cooking and baking projects waiting for me, either. The last of the zucchini have been turned into soup stock and frozen loaves of bread. Most of the cucumbers so far have been turned into pickles, and the first frenzied round of tomatoes has become salsa. Tomorrow there will be another dozen or so to deal with, but right now my produce situation is under control.

I have plans to meet friends for dinner tonight, but that's not for at least a few hours. My laundry is clean and dry, the dishes are washed, the kitchen is stocked with groceries, and I can't think of a single place where I'm behind. I can spend the day slacking off with impunity. I can read horror novels and drink tea. I can spend the whole day watching television and crocheting. I can lie around in my pajamas and debate the merits of various restaurants in Epcot with my fiance. I can play Nethack until my eyes glass over.

Now all I have to do is figure out where to start....
