It's amazing the difference a hot shower can make in turning someone from a muzzy-headed semiconscious ball of ache into a functioning, cheerful human being. I feel like a snake shedding its skin - peeling off the headaches and fatigue and spaced-out headspace of yesterday with a curtain of steaming water, revealing a bright, sunshiney, pleasant individual hiding underneath. I think it must be necessary to wake up my skin before the rest of me can become functional.
It's also amazing how utterly adorable my neighbor's toddler is. Sitting in my upstairs room, I can look down on their yard and watch him as he romps through his first winter as an ambulatory being. There's about a quarter-inch of snow on the ground, and he's bundled up until he's practically spherical, wobbling back and forth dragging a tiny play shovel across the yard while his much less enthusiastic mom follows behind.
The world is a much more pleasant place when I'm awake and in a good mood....
