Surreal....
Dec. 26th, 2004 04:29 pmIt's a snowy, blustery day-after-holiday kind of day. I've got nowhere important to be, nothing important to do, no plans beyond eating, sleeping, and catching up on quality time with my cats and my sweetie. It's comfortable, in a way, but... empty. Part of my mind keeps spinning, wondering if I should be doing something more, wishing I had a Task, or a Quest.
The house smells vaguely sweet, and homey, and yeasty from a loaf of bread rising in the kitchen, and I had curled up on the sofa with a delightfully trashy paperback and my husband on the loveseat next to me, when I heard footsteps. Someone trotted up onto our porch, pushed an envelope through the mail slot, and wandered off. No big deal; we live in a house with two other apartments - I figured it was just someone dropping off mail that went to the wrong door.
Not quite. It was an envelope, yes, wrapped in shiny paper and addressed to me. In block letters, with no return address. The envelope inside had a printed logo on it, and no other identifying features. And inside was a sheet of paper, with bits of letters scattered around it in a puzzle.
A Mystery. A Task. A Quest.
I am so jazzed.
It looks like the letter pieces will make a URL for a web page, once they're put together. I've already photocopied the paper, so I can cut out the copies and piece them together. I've got a few ideas, and I can't wait to see where this goes. If whoever delivered the letter is reading this, you've got me hooked.
And so it begins.... :)
EDIT: 5pm. First puzzle solved. Puzzles two and three found. Let's see where they go....
