Round One Complete
Jul. 4th, 2005 08:21 pmAll right - the first wave of summer schedule insanity is over. The Palio is past, my friend's wedding is done, I've finished teaching dance until September, there are no major changes to make to the online translation, and I'm not planning to have any large groups of guests over in the near future. I've finished most of the big, time-critical sewing/crocheting/cross-stitching projects I had planned, I've taken care of quarterly taxes, and my schedule is stable through the end of August. The garden is planted, and growing steadily, but nothing is ready to be harvested yet.
This can mean only one thing - it's time to start preparing for the next major onslaught of hecticness. At least right now it's still all in preparing-mode, instead of actual attack mode. I need to pack (and finish hunting down costume supplies) for this weekend's game. I have new crochet and cross-stitch projects that, while not heinously urgent, do need to get done. I need to put more time into practicing Indian dance; while I'm memorizing the routine fairly easily I'm sure the individual steps are still fairly sloppy. The garden still needs to be weeded, there are other books that need translating, letters that need to be written, and I've promised myself that I'll get my schedule into an electronic format. And, looming in the distance like a big funnel cloud of excitement and trepidation, is Pennsic.
I have a plan. I have a place to camp, and a tent to camp in, and an idea of what will be necessary to survive. However, I also have a hell of a lot of prep to do. We need chairs, and storage bins, and we need to figure out whether we're buying or borrowing a bed. We need a lot more garb. I have fabric, though, and I've had enough sewing instruction at this point that the only thing holding me back is my own insistence that I don't know how to sew - T-tunic dresses, while perhaps not the most authentic clothing, are simple and a lot more weather-appropriate than most of what I own. We need to find out whether our neighbor can cat-sit for us. I need to find a time to get my car tuned up before the drive. I need to remember to go to the camp's website and fill out the food survey thingum. Most of all, I need to figure out what I'm forgetting before it's actually forgotten.
And yet, somehow this still all sounds like fun....
