Warm Fuzzies
Jan. 7th, 2006 11:17 pmI'm becoming less and less a fan of winter as time goes on. I need my sunshine, and having it be dark outside at 4:30pm really doesn't do good things for me. And being a very small animal, I am highly vulnerable to cold weather, even when it's not that incredibly cold.
On the other hand, the cold weather does give me an excuse to bundle up with every afghan, blanket, sweater, cardigan, shawl, and wrap that I own. And as time goes by, that pile is getting bigger and bigger. Some women have a pair of shoes to go with every outfit; apparently I am rapidly approaching the point where I will have a keeping-warm-piece to go with every outfit.
I'm sitting here right now with an afghan I made a few years ago on my lap, with my fuzzy green wrap around my shoulders - I just finished it yesterday, and I adore it, even if it does look a little bit like I'm wearing Oscar the Grouch. I've got cardigans in black, silver, purple, and one lacy one in blue. I've got the fan-patterned shawl I made, a blue knit one from my mother-in-law, and a surprisingly nice poncho my mom made me. This isn't even including the actual coat-and-jacket collection I've managed to accumulate over the past few years, which is honestly impressive enough that I should pare through it, weed out anything I haven't worn since graduation, and donate it to goodwill.
Of course, I also went out and bought the new issue of Crochet! Magazine today. And it's got almost half a dozen patterns for sweaters and jackets and wraps, all of which I have a burning desire to make. I don't need them. I have plenty. I have no idea when or if I'll even wear them. And none of this stops me from desperately wanting my own hand-made plaid crocheted cropped cardigan, or ribbon bolero jacket, or mohair stole....
It doesn't help that, with the exception of the Belt That Will Never Be Finished, I'm between crochet projects right now. I need a distraction, fast....
