....the best thing about New England winters is that it feels so good when they stop.

I love days like this, when you've gotten so used to bleak, miserable, oppressive, frigid, gray, icy weather that suddenly 55 degrees feels like the sacred, golden, blessed heart of summer and makes you want to run around in the sunshine with your jacket off, baring your skin to soak up as much fresh air as you can. I know that it'll end and we'll have at least one more snowstorm before true spring arrives, and I know that come September 55 will suddenly feel like freezing doom, but today it was glorious.

Glorious enough that, after a truly marvelous brunch, my husband and I decided to walk the 3 miles or so back to our car rather than duck back underground into the subway. Glorious enough that we could drive with the windows down. Glorious enough that my tulips have started, cautiously, to poke their tiny green spiky heads up from the dirt.

Glorious is a good word for today, overall. There was brunch, and walking, and sunshine. Walking home, I found a stack of beading and crafting magazines labeled as 'free to a good home' sitting on the sidewalk. I even managed to brave the malls and my own mental minefields to go shopping, and found a lovely dress that happened to be exactly what I was looking for - Lord & Taylor is rapidly becoming my go-to place for Nice Dresses That Fit Remarkably Well.

And now I am home, ready for a glamorous night of bathing the snake, working out, and planning menus for the upcoming week. And soon there will be friends from out of town, and Intercon, and, if I am lucky, more sunshine.

February is over. Thank all the powers that be. I just hope it stays gone for another 11 months or so.
