Tired But Happy
Mar. 6th, 2011 08:13 pmSo, another year, another Intercon. The only downside is that it's over now, and it'll be a long time before the next one.
Aside from some logistical issues, it was good. I'll avoid details, and just state that I am Not A Fan of the new hotel in several serious ways, but that's not the fault of the con. Everything that was up to the con, the players, and the GM's was good.
Friday night was Princess of Norland, which was an okay-ish game made much better by having some good friends to riff off, play with, and generally entertain each other - even though their obviousness made it incredibly difficult to play as dumb as I had intended to.
Saturday morning
baron_saturday rocked my socks once again, giving me the exact character I would have wanted if I had been given a list of every part in the game and told to pick out my favorite. Never Never Again was a delightful game, I got to have some wonderful interactions with good friends I don't get to RP with enough, and the costume that I thought would be goofy and kind of stupid-looking wound up being one of my favorite parts of the weekend.
(In other news, I am fairly certain that a large part of the difference between a costume that looks kind of stupid and a costume that looks awesome is going to the top, and then continuing way the hell over, and enjoying it entirely. I am also not quite sure how to interpret the fact that, when I showed up in a flowered dress, Tinkerbell wings, pointed ears, clip-on butterflies, and a full-body coat of glitter, I was told that it looked like I had finally taken off my human-suit to reveal my true self. I *think* it was intended as a compliment.....)
The Stand was light but entertaining, and a good reminder that when I'm not sure what to do in game, spilling secrets is always a useful choice, as is just making up a shared friendship and running with it. And, as always, the Ex Arcana dudes kicked ass, took names, and generally made my world a better place. I know that a handful of people didn't have as much fun at their game as I did, but... well, I am lucky enough to have an amazing character that I could enjoy playing in almost any situation. Between that and a love of their setting and storytelling style, an opportunity to play around with plots and situations I'm not used to, and a new person to play with who I meshed amazingly with in spite of never having met before, it was one of the highlights of my weekend.
Today
umbran and I helped
cristovau and
bess run Purging Purgatory, which was fun and a lot more low-key than I had expected, both as a gm and as a general assessment of the game. While I'm not a huge fan of writing, I do love floor-gm'ing - it's entertaining as hell to watch the story unfold, and players always seem to find ways to surprise and amaze me.
There was not enough social time this weekend - I spent a lot of Sunday afternoon hugging people goodbye without having actually seen or spoken to them before that moment. Partly that was because I had a game in every slot; partly the hotel layout didn't lend itself to socializing, partly it was the lack of dance. But even with that, I had fun. I played good games, and a bunch of roles that were a bit atypical for me - I only had one romance plot over the whole weekend, and I don't think I spent more than five minutes crying total. I made new friends, and wore spiffy costumes, and helped make other people's weekends fun.
And now I am sitting and resting my feet and getting ready for a week of work and guests and re-starting tango classes and maybe, if I'm lucky, something close to enough sleep. I am tired, and happy, and full of good social energy.....
