Hedonism Of A Sort
Mar. 19th, 2011 06:06 pmI honestly cannot think of anything you can do alone that feels better than a serious, intense workout followed by a hot shower.
Lately, in a questionably-successful attempt to help fix my insomnia, I've been focusing more on yoga than on cardio/strength training in my workouts. Don't get me wrong; I still love yoga with a deep and abiding passion. It's a style of movement that feels natural to my body, and it leaves me feeling relaxed and calm and balanced in a way that nothing else does. But it doesn't feel like actually pushing my body, or working at my limits, and sometimes I need that.
Hard-core workouts feel GOOD. Making myself sweat, speeding up my heart rate and my breathing, pushing myself to see how hard I can go and for how long, leaves me feeling like I've done something viscerally appropriate and right - it's using my body for what it was made for, and it feels good to let it do that and to be able to. And following that up with a long, soaking, hot shower just makes me feel like anything bad, dark, unpleasant, stressful, or otherwise negative has been washed away and I have woken up alive and ready again for the first time in ages. I can feel every inch of muscle and bone and skin, in a good way.....
