There are days when I love my job - when things go smoothly, or I have fascinating cases and feel like I made a difference in people's lives and the world. When I get to wallow in the awesomeness and glory of science, and in the fact that I actually get paid to play with puppies and kittens.

Then there are days that are frustrating and stressful, when I have to sustain myself by daydreaming about moving away to Martha's Vineyard and opening a bakery/bookstore where I only work the hours I feel like working, and never have to make a life-or-death decision, and I can just laugh at impossible clients.

And then there are days that even that fantasy cannot sustain me, and the only way I can survive is by remembering that, if things get REALLY bad I can always run away to my magical tropical island, where I live in a beautiful tiki hut, in peace and camaraderie with friendly dinosaurs who let me ride them and share their magical dinosaur wisdom with me and will totally trample the shit out of anyone who makes me unhappy.

Also, there are manatees. And all the coconut drinks in the world, with little purple umbrellas, served by cute boys who also give world-class foot massages.
