Looking at the news and media, I realize that at this point in time the primary effect of the Westboro Baptist Church is to unite people *against* them, in support of decency and love. More people show up to counter-protest and oppose them than they can muster themselves. And the Discordian in me can't help but wonder.... just what if this really was their whole point and purpose after all?

I mean, wouldn't it be kind of hilariously awesome? Poor Fred Phelps - visionary? Prophet? Time traveler from a distant dystopian future? Anyway, he somehow realizes that the only way to get humanity to come together in support of love and goodness is to give them an unquestionably horrid, hateworthy foe to unite against. And, selflessly, he sacrifices himself on the altar of history and public opinion to become that man - giving up his good name and any chance of respect ever, to bring about that beautiful future that he knows mankind is capable of if only they're properly motivated.

When you look at it that way, it's actually rather brilliant....

Edited to add: I do not, in fact, honestly believe that Fred Phelps is a time-traveling Discordian aiming towards the betterment of humanity. It was just an image that occurred to me, that I thought was ironically amusing. I know he's evil, and I apologize for any confusion.
