You know what January in New England really needs? A busted furnace.
Last night I was curled up on the sofa, reading and chatting with friends, and I noticed it was rather chilly in our house. But I wasn't too surprised, since I'm more or less always cold. I just pulled a blanket over myself and kept reading.
And then
umbran came downstairs and said something along the lines of, 'Hey, it's kinda chilly down here.' And I realized that, since he mentioned it, I couldn't actually feel my toes. And that
umbran is never cold, so if he noticed it, this was more than just my usual whiny temperature intolerance. And when my beloved husband went downstairs to check the furnace, it wouldn't light.
Thankfully, we have a truly epic number of blankets and quilts to pile onto our bed, so we made it through the night comfy and snuggly and warm. But I'm sitting downstairs right now under layers of clothes and blankets and polar fleece while my perpetual hero husband calls around to multiple furnace-fixer-people, trying to find someone who can come and help us before things get truly freezing tomorrow.
At least it's unseasonably warm today - if things don't get fixed soon, I may be spending the rest of the week at the library....
