Problem:
My watch broke. In particular, the crystal on the face shattered somehow overnight while it was sitting peacefully in my jewelry box. (Admittedly, said watch is over ten years old.) And I need a watch for work, so I need to replace it before 9am tomorrow.
Complication:
My new watch needs to be sturdy enough to withstand repeated hand-washing and being gnawed on by patients, impervious to blood and pet hair, and not particularly expensive (because it will be subjected to gnawing and bodily fluids).
Further complications:
Because I have tiny little bony doll wrists, NONE of the watches available at most stores fit me. Stretchy-band watches fall off my hands. Clasped watches need multiple links removed, which they apparently can't do at the store. (And leather/synthetic/etc bands are right out; they either stay wet or hold water against my wrist and feel gross.) Also, I need something with a small face, to avoid looking like Flavor Flav. None of these features are available for less than $100.
Solution:
Lego Store. In particular, the Lego Star Wars Yoda watch. It's washable, it's small, it's adjustable, and it cost about half as much as anything else I could find.
Of course, then I walked past the mall kiosk that told me they could fix my broken crystal in half an hour, for about $30.... so once I finally get another chance to get that taken care of, I'll just have to hand the Yoda watch on to someone else. But still, it amuses me that the only way I can find a work-appropriate watch is to go to a toy store....
