I love my e-reader. I've had it for years now, and at this point it's where I do the vast and overwhelming majority of my reading. It's light (I have a fondness for books that, in their hardcover form, could cause serious injury if dropped on someone). It's an infinite number of books. I never have to worry about running out of reading material. I can have any book in my library at any time.

But there are some things about paper novels that it just can't match. In particular, there's something that always fascinates me about going back to pick up an old favorite, finding the scraps and bits that I tucked into it last time I was reading it, and trying to reconstruct when that was and what was going on in my life. It's like a snapshot of my own past.

This post has been brought to you today by the pink phone message slip tucked inside my copy of 'Bone Dance,' with a scrawled phone number and the words RENEE FERRET on the back, the title of a book I never read in the corner underneath it, and a list of conversations I needed to have in-character for Threads of Damocles enumerated on the front...
