Goodbye, 2006. I can't really say that I'm going to miss you. You were a mean, bullying jerkface to me and many of my friends, and I can only hope that your successor will be more benevolent. That said, you did teach me a heck of a lot.
So.....
I've learned what a synovial plica is.
I've learned that physical therapy, while uncomfortable, isn't quite as bad as I had imagined it would be.
I've learned that general anesthesia doesn't have to be a completely miserable experience.
I've learned that surgery is a lot more scary when it's being done to me than when I'm doing it.
I've learned not to take my mobility for granted.
I've learned how to dance with a snake.
I've learned that the applause of an audience is a dangerous and habit-forming thing.
I've learned that Hawaii is heaven.
I've learned that poi tastes nasty, but kailua pork is amazing.
I've learned that Polynesian culture fascinates the heck out of me.
I've learned how to perform a declaw with a blade instead of a laser.
I've learned that the only thing scarier than going under general anesthesia myself is having my husband go under general anesthesia.
I've learned that being on Intercon concom is not as bad as I thought it would be.
I've learned what it feels like to carry the coffin of someone I loved to their grave and send them to their final rest.
I've learned that real, live Christmas trees are a pure goodness.
I've learned how to report for jury duty, though I haven't learned what it's like to serve on a jury.
I've learned that, every time that I think I understand just how wonderful my friends are and how blessed I am, they manage to surprise me again with their love and kindness.
I've learned that no matter how many girlie hobbies and collections I have, there's always one more thing to get hooked on - and that, given the chance, I *will* get hooked.
I've learned how to use a drop spindle.
I've learned a heck of a lot about househunting.
I've learned about the new vaccine guidelines for animals, and that as a relief vet I'm a little Jenny Appleseed of information for the clinics I work at.
I've learned that, if I have to, I can euthanize my own pet.
I've learned that my friend E. is a wonderful dad, and that his daughter is just as beautiful as I imagined she'd be.
And now, I'm more than ready to bid this year farewell, and welcome the next one with open arms and heaps of hope.
What did you learn this year?
