DONE
We can has house.
More details to follow, but suffice it to say that after a nigh-disastrous walkthrough, a series of miscommunications, a migraine, and an hour and a half of signing and initialing papers at a surprisingly smooth closing, my dear husband and I are now homeowners.
It's not perfect. But, after a night's sleep and some time to think, the imperfections don't seem quite so big anymore. And it's ours.
Off to work, now. The world keeps moving outside.
I could really use a nap, though. Part of me wants everything to pause for a bit while I process this....

Every house has imprefections. Don't stress about them, just focus on the nice things that made you pick the house in the first place.

Like someone else above said - every house has imperfections. Part of the fun of house-owning is *making* it a home, your home. Part of that is mitigating the imperfections where possible, and focussing on/amking the best of the strengths and advantages the house has for you.
May it be a good home to you both, with many happy hour shared in and with it.

I think it is safe to share one story from closing on my house - wouldn't want to have done this before you went through it. You'd be amazed at how scary the simple question "Where did that check go?" is when it is referring to the cashier's check for a 20% downpayment plus closing costs on your first home. The biggest check I have ever written, and the person handling the closing could not find it immediately!!!! Fortunately, it was just under some other papers, and found quite quickly. It just *seemed* like forever to me...
