Russ has a 4-waffle iron; they're smallish (about 5" square), but it does make the process go significantly faster. And waffles freeze well, if you didn't know that already.
Re your mother's not-so-good cookbooks, would it be feasible to box them up and put them in a closet? That way you still have them, but you also have room on your shelves for more cookbooks that you'd actually use.
