No cute intros or anecdotes here - straight to the heart of the matter.

Next summer, July 2010, [livejournal.com profile] tpau and I will be taking part in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure, walking 60 miles to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. This means, among other things, that we each need to raise $3000 by then.

I know it sounds like a lot of money, but I'm lucky. I have a lot of friends. Heck, I've got an idea that if everyone who reads this donated $10 we'd be pretty darn close to hitting that goal. I know that this is a lousy time to be asking for donations - people are out of work, people are scared, and if you can't spare anything you can't spare anything. But if you can, every little bit helps.

I'm doing this for so many reasons. I lost my godmother to breast cancer not too many years ago. I've watched other friends fight, and I know my family history well enough to know it's a battle I may have to fight someday. And it's been so frustrating to feel powerless, to not be able to do anything to help. Here's something I can do.

Please, donate if you can. Pass the word around, too, if you know anyone else who may want to contribute.

Thank you all so much - for reading, and listening, whether you can donate or not.

My mother-in-law, best midwestern friend, two cousins and a great aunt have all had breast cancer. Fortunately, they have all managed to fight it and win. My great aunt finally succumbed to the age of 87 earlier this year, not the cancer.

Count me in. I can't contribute yet, so if you could kindly remind me in September, I will certainly pledge the money then. (I have ADD and a lot of change going on right now, so cannot be 100% sure I will remember without help.)

I am honored to know you. I am not sure I could make three days, and I appreciate your doing it. So remind me in Sept, and I will gladly sponsor you.

Thank you for walking. You and [livejournal.com profile] tpau can of course count on donations from [livejournal.com profile] jducoeur and me.

Can you find out if they accept corporate matching donations? I don't know if doubling my contribution will count for your fundraising, but it's silly for me to waste Microsoft's dollar-for-dollar match if I can get the money to them.

Can I give you cash when I see you or do donations need to go through the website?
