This Needs To Happen Now

You know what I really, really want to see?

A story, in just about any media - novel, tv show, movie, whatever - about a succubus who DOESN'T dress like a cheap just-post-pubescent BDSM model trying to work it like it's for sale and the rent is due tomorrow.

Think about it. If you're a damn succubus, with magic make-yourself-sexy powers, you don't actually need to dress in stiletto boots and waist cinchers and false eyelashes and fourteen pounds of eyeliner and spend all your time panting and touching yourself. You're magic. You can look like whatever you want, and still get All The Boys.

If I were a succubus, I'd be wearing freaking mukluks and fleecy sushi-print pajamas and I'd never wear any makeup except chapstick. Well, and glitter, because glitter is just cool, and I'd revel in the fact that every guy who ever touched me would be tainted with my glitter cooties. But I wouldn't wear it for hotness's sake. Because I wouldn't need to.

So please, someone, write this for me now. And then get it on SyFy, because it'll be a world and a half better than what they're airing now.

(This message brought to you by the commercials for 'Lost Girl,' because I cannot actually bring myself to watch an episode of what looks to be a discount Laurel K. Hamilton knock-off made for cable tv show....)

Bam.

http://www.gamebanshee.com/planescapetorment/companions/fall-from-grace.php

"Fall-From-Grace is a succubus, one of the tanar'ri, a creature literally formed of raw chaos and evil, her body and mind the perfect template to tempt a man of any species, any age. She is the proprietress of the Brothel for Slaking Intellectual Lusts."

Hmm..... okay, then; color me impressed.

I also want a million dollars and my own island... :)

I think there's a mod for that... 8)

...if you haven't played Planescape: Torment, well. You might at least read about it because it's the best computer RPG basically ever, and if I could have a very selective lobotomy and play it again without remembering anything I'd do so in a second.

Beat me to it :-)

That game was all about going places that the cliches never do.

Have you seen Middleman?

I'd say Roxy and her Succu-brethren (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVIsToGQl_Y) meet your criteria.

Nah, they're all about the sexy. (though it's an awesome show....)

This concept would fit easily in the AoC.

So I will just now admit that I've watched Lost Girl and it has issues, its actually a pretty enjoyable show.

I agree. The fact that her sidekick reminds me of a ... ahem ... troubled server I worked with for a few months just adds to the appeal for me.

I've seen 1 ep of Lost Girl.

Fairly typical Girl Private Investigator of issues regarding the Fey folks.

The main character is only "standard" sexy, being a young twenty-something lady.

Her power is not tied to her looks. She turns on the power and anybody becomes drawn to her.

You are absolutely right. And imagine a succubus who looked like a plain, ordinary middle-aged woman and who could STILL draw the guys, even when there were human sex-kittens standing RIGHT THERE. Because it's not about what she looks like, it's about what guys see when they look at her.

Except, it's not. Please give it a chance.

In the first episode, the succubus does not have sex, shows no more skin than any other female character in the media (mostly tanktops with/without jacket over them), does kick butt, and acquires a pretty awesome sidekick girl with plenty of Bechdel-compatible banter.

The succubus thing is kinda like a vampire thing without blood - hypnotic gaze + an addiction that can leave corpses behind, which if one is not evil is not at all a convenient power to have.

It is "yet another PI show, this one with faery-themed politics and mystery past", but Sci Fi Channel has recently been pretty darn good at writing women I like to watch. I don't at all see 'Lost Girl' going porntastic or Hamiltonian.

Love. This.

watch Lost Girl.

[identity profile] ravenrose.livejournal.com 2012-02-02 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
What Leiacat said.

In Lost Girl, Bo does not wear stilletos and cinchers... She wears a badass leather jacket, has strong, not delicate, features, kicks Fae and Human ass... and her first kill is a roofie-rapist, that she kills to protect another woman.
She is "in your face" and grown up sexy-tough, like Selene in Underworld. When she does have sex, it is hot and yummy, and no initiated by her succubus-powers.

Also, her powers work on men AND women, and she uses them on both!Rowr!

I feel obliged to point out that (so far as I know) [livejournal.com profile] cirne's only pajama pants are, in fact, fleecy sushi-print. And perhaps this explains a great deal about her.

We've already established, though, that I'm a Mary Sue. No one would watch it. ;)

I refuse to respond to the insinuation that I may or may not be a succubus on the grounds that it may incriminate me.

While I haven't actually read it, I believe that the short story "The Likeness of Julie" by Richard Matheson might be what you're looking for. According to the review at http://www.helium.com/items/1900774-the-likeness-of-julie-richard-matheson it involves a plain, unappealing girl who the main character can't stop himself from becoming obsessed with. Apparently one of the stories in the film "Trilogy of Terror" is based on it.
