Crossroads is about the nadir of the Wheel of Time series. It gets a lot better with Knife of Dreams, which is where Jordan started taking a pair of pruning shears to the overgrown plot bushes...and the next books finally show the sort of building tension and pressure and energy that the series deserves to reach in climax. (Since they got Brandon "Avalanche" Sanderson to finish the series, that's only appropriate.)
