I just came home from Falconridge Folk Festival. And I need to remember how amazing it is, so I don't do something silly like not going again for eight years (which is what happened after the last time I day-tripped there).

I always avoid events like that because I'm not a musician, and because, frankly, camping holds little to no appeal for me - I've somehow reached a point in life where my idea of 'roughing it' is no in-suite hot tub. But friends of mine go every year, and it always sounds like so much fun, so this year [livejournal.com profile] umbran and I decided to head down, and there are no words for how glad I am that we did.

From the time we got there, and ran into friends and heard the music coming from everywhere, I knew we were in the right place. The weather was nothing short of glorious all weekend long - hot enough during the days that I traded my jeans for a silk wrapskirt I bought at one of the vendors, cool enough at night to need a sweater, but never overwhelming in either direction, and there wasn't a drop of rain. The music was beautiful and omnipresent, and every band and every concert was worth seeing.

And the dancing was excellent. I'll admit that's a lot of why I went - the thought of being able to dance *any time I wanted to* was a hefty bribe, and it was definitely worth going. I wish there had been more and better swing dancing; I'm still not the hugest fan of contra, and as a more-or-less first-timer I hadn't penetrated the cliques enough to get *all* the dancing I wanted, but it was still good.

Ultimately, I just got to spend an entire weekend out in the sun in a gorgeous green space, listening to amazing music, catching up with friends I don't see often enough, and dancing until midnight. And it needs to happen again.....
