Down Time

I am being a lazy slug tonight. I should be at dance practice right now, bouncing around and generally acting exuberant and enthusiastic and encouraging other people to join me in the act of recreating renaissance dance. Instead, I am sitting here at my computer, in my comfy crocheted socks, doing absolutely nothing of the sort.

I realized this afternoon that I haven't had the chance to eat a nice, sit-down dinner with my husband in longer than I can remember, and that I've had more fast-food, takeout, or cold sandwich dinners in the past two weeks than in the six months before then. I like being busy, and I like being useful, but there comes a point when I have a responsibility to myself and my sweetie to spend some downtime at home, too.

So tonight I'm shirking my social commitment in order to stay home and make an active effort to do nothing. Dinner has been had, and if it wasn't a fantabulous gourmet effort, at least it didn't come out of a can or the cold cut drawer. In a few minutes, we'll bake some homemade chocolate chip cookies, and curl up on the sofa with the cats to watch episodes of Veronica Mars and Battlestar Galactica that have been backing up while I spent the past few weeks driving myself to the brink of exhaustion.

I will not work on anything more arduous than cookie dough. I will not feel guilty about this, either. I may even manage more than six hours of sleep tonight. It's a tiny oasis of personal indulgence....

So, while at the meeting this weekend, Daniel and I have a place we'd like to go for dinner at least once, and we'd like to drag you along with us :-) How do you feel about Irish pub grub? the particular place is An Poitin Stil - we discovered them back last fall on a trip to the area, and, well, kinda ate every meal there for three days. Very good food, and we are figuring to NOT go before Sunday, as we don't want to really fight the crowds for their Irish Fest/St Patrick's Day (week) ...

(hopefully that link will work ... I was just there two days ago, but it's not working for me right now)

I would like to not that I feel that your hubby is your MOST IMPORTANT social commitment. You are not shirking social commitment, you are giving first priority to your more important social commitment. And loving commitment, and all that other good stuff.

Go you.

And, if I could wave a magic guilt-erasing wand for you, I'd do it.

*hugs*

1. Congratulations on blowing off a lesser commitment for more important things like yourself, your husband, and your mutual need to remember what each other looks like.

2. You're watching Veronica Mars, now? Is it not wonderful? Yay!!!

It's important to take time out for yourself when you need to. (I'm sometimes the poster-child for the negative effects of not doing so.) And your schedule these past few weeks has been hectic by any standard. Taking an evening off was the right thing to do.

And have a good trip, if I don't talk to you before then...

Congrats

A hobby is yours when you can leave it and return as needed.

I'm glad you are taking care of you.
