The nice thing about being heinously ill is that tiny little things can make you feel immensely better.

On a normal, mediocre day, the mere act of sitting down on a comfy sofa is not an earth-shaking act of comfort. On the other hand, when I've worked a ten-hour shift with a fever and haven't been able to eat more than a half-cup of chicken broth and a handful of saltines in 48 hours, that same comfy sofa, with a blanket and some tylenol, can make the entire world a friendly, welcoming place to live.

Sleep also becomes your best friend when you're sick, apparently. After 11 hours of solid unconsciousness last night, I have somehow suddenly rejoined the human race. I can stand up and smile, I can walk and talk at the same time, I can eat solid food, I may just make it through the entire day alive and in one piece.

I just wish I didn't have to go through the whole 'being sick' to get to the delight of simple wellness at the end. At least I'm better in time to get some solid rehearsing in for this weekend, though.

On a completely separate note, Christine Lavin is still playing at the Somerville Theatre on Friday, March 31. I'm going to buy tickets Real Soon Now - if you want to come along, let me know. I'll buy the tickets in a bundle, to make sure we get seats together, and people can pay me back as they will.....
