Public Service Announcement
Oct. 2nd, 2006 10:34 pmThere's something that I need y'all to do. Right away, or as soon as possible.
You all need to watch 'Heroes.' I mean it.
For one thing, it's about the only new genre tv out there this season, so it's not like there are a dozen other rivals devouring your time. For another thing, it's actually pretty good. It's heavy-handed, and the dialogue is reminiscent of mid-eighties X-Men - you know, the issues where somewhere before page 3, they wind up in trumped-up combat where Colossus just happens to say, 'Worry not, tovarisch, my organic steel hide is impervious to the Sentinel's fists! Now, friend Wolverine, attack him with your adamantium claws!' But it's getting better quickly, and to be honest, the first season of just about any genre show tends to be more expository than excellent. Unfortunately, genre shows often aren't given the chance to make it past the first season and hit their stride.
That's where you come in.
Without your viewership and support, this show is going to die an abrupt, speedy, and premature death. I give it half a dozen episodes - the plight of non-mainstream shows on network TV is a poor one. And this one really deserves a chance.
So watch it. I'm not even going to require that you enjoy it, though I bet if you suspend your disbelief and dignity for a half hour or so, you will. Get to know the characters, speculate on how it's all going to tie together, count the gratuitous Stan Lee and Star Trek references.
Don't let this show die before I can find out what the heck is going on. I need something I love to live, right now.
