Happiness, Day 4
Dec. 16th, 2008 08:36 pmIn spite of a fairly good day today, I'm somehow inexplicably blue this evening.
Well, that's not entirely true. I'm fairly explicably blue, but not for any good reason. Just for reasons of my own ridiculous hangups, which are made even worse by my knowing that they're ridiculous and not being able to get rid of them even so. Which makes them even more frustrating. On the other hand, at least I'm aware of their existence and the fact that they're ridiculous, which is a good start.
Anyway. No one big, bright, shiny thing stood out in particular as a beacon of delight in a cold, dark world today, but there were a lot of small, sparkly bits, and that's even better, in some ways.
-Buying lunch for a homeless man in Harvard Square. (Hey, his sign said that he was hungry. And I'd rather buy someone a meal than give them spare change; this way I know what I'm giving is actually helpful.) He was very nice, and had a beautiful smile and alarmingly blonde hair, and part of me really wants to know his story.
-Finding what will hopefully be just the right holiday present for a friend who's been fairly down lately.
-Falling a little bit in love with the new version of Changeling, and having a chance to hash over character options, and looking forward to playing in the not-too-distant future.
-Spending most of the day with a kind and patient friend who didn't mind being dragged along on my wacky adventures, explaining rules systems, or warming up my poor icy fingers.
-Managing to do a backbend for the first time ever - last time I tried, a couple of months ago, I couldn't get more than an inch or so off the floor. Apparently, the past several weeks of upper-body work while waiting for my knee to heal paid off.
Now I have gingerbread cookies in the oven, friends keeping me company online, and new reading material to keep me busy when the rest of my evening activities are done. And all things considered, that's not a bad way to end the day.
