"Betty Crocker Soup & Bread"
This is, by all rights, more a pamphlet than a book - it's one of those glossy little paperbacks that they sell at the checkout stations in the groceries. But I have an inordinate number of them, mostly because I am susceptible to shiny pictures, they're slightly better impulse buys than candy bars, and I do wind up using them fairly often. Some of them are hand-me-downs, some have been stocking stuffers, and some I actually bought myself. This one, I believe, falls in the latter category.
This is my last week of serious non-work time, so I've been doing my best to get a decent amount of cooking done, while simultaneously not too much money. This has led to some interesting food choices, and to y'all getting inundated with cooking posts (apologies if they're boring; they'll probably slow down in the near future).
Last night's dinner was Chicken Broccoli Tortellini Soup. And it was good - inexpensive, quick, easy, and fairly tasty. While the recipes in these little books aren't deathless cuisine, they're usually not too trashy or filled with instant fake food, either. And it went quite well with homemade biscuits, even if I did realize halfway through making the biscuits that we were out of cream, leading me to have to improvise with a combination of half-and-half and melted butter.
Tonight's dinner is leftovers, mostly due to my rather idiotic failure to notice that, while the crock pot was filled and turned on at 8:30am as planned, it wasn't actually plugged in. With any luck, food will finish before I have to go to sleep tonight, and will reheat well tomorrow....
