At dinner with friends last night, talking about this and that and whatever crossed our minds, I realized that there is something I desperately need in my life. And that is Ghostbusters: The Broadway Musical.

Broadway has been packed full for the past few years of jukebox musicals and movies-turned-into-musicals, so why the hell has this not been made yet? It would work, I swear it would. And the combination of cheese and nostalgia would be certain to pack theaters.

Can't you just see it in your mind? The dance number as they make over the firehouse. The poignant and dramatic song that Rick Moranis sings after the Sigourney Weaver character snubs him yet again. The mustache-twirling villain song belted out by the EPA guy. The Julie Taymor-style showstopper that Gozer sings from the refrigerator, complete with dancing eggs and milk cartons.

I think my favorite part, though, would be the epic 'One Day More'-style song, done in multiple parts, as they're getting ready for the final battle. Imagine it...

Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man (marching ominously through the streets) singing the base line, something simple and repetitive. 'I come to destroy/A tasty treat/Who will crush you 'neath my feet'

Ghostbusters (gearing up below), singing counterpoint... 'We're gearing up/We charge our packs/I've still got Slimer on my slacks....'

Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver (clutching hands in standard romantic style) singing something swoopy and dramatic in the background... 'Gooooooods are weeeeeee/In this tiiiiiiime of death/Shall we fiiiiind true love/Before we draw our last breath?'

New York Citizens (running, panicking, and dying, yet with perfect timing and precision dance moves) singing something spritely in double-time.... 'Doom is here!/What shall we do?/That bum just drowned in sugary goo/I never should have moved from Jersey!'

Clearly this must happen, if only to prevent me from writing the rest of this show myself....
