I would like to perform an interpretive dance for everyone to express my enjoyment and delight and describe my overall experiences at 'Brassy's Men' this past weekend. Unfortunately, this idea has several flaws. For one thing, this is pretty much a text and still-images only medium. Also, I'm exhausted beyond the point of functioning - the heinous traffic driving there might have been bad, but getting stuck on the on-ramp for the George Washington Bridge for three hours and getting home at 4:30 am, only to get up for work at 7 this morning, really knocked the stuffing out of me. Last but not least, I'm not sure I could find sufficient props to represent the complex and subtle interplay of jackalopes, fish-men, and cucumber tea sandwiches.

Instead, I had to satisfy myself with wandering aimlessly through my day today singing the Little Song of Brassy Joy, which goes something like this:

Drama, drama, angst, angst;
Drama, drama, politics,
Drama, drama, giant WHAT?
Drama, drama, romance!

Okay, this is admittedly likely to be far more amusing when you're heinously sleep-depped, prone to giggling at half-muzzy images of scenes that you can't describe to anyone else even if there's a chance they might understand, and trying to distract yourself from that kind of tense knotty leg-cramp that only comes from sitting still in the passenger seat of a smallish car for eleven hours straight, but at least it kept me awake through appointments today.

I'm hooked. It was good, and fun, and complicated, and I am now far more invested in my character than I ever thought I could be. I'll admit that political plots are so far outside my normal roleplaying spectrum that I was a bit unsure as to what to do or whether I'd enjoy it, but there's enough personal investment for my character that they're fun, and I've been lucky enough to be cast smack in the middle of two Great Gurus of Political Plots, who managed to subtly help me maneuver through the more confusing bits. It was tough at moments to watch people run off to fight monsters and achieve adventure while I sat back to help draft bills for Parliament, but.... it's a different kind of thrill, and a much-needed roleplaying challenge. And the socio-political drama is nicely balanced by the fact that I have managed to discover a new acquaintance who is, much to my amazement, as much of a romantic angst junkie as I am, and we have quite cheerfully thrown ourselves at the task of mutually making our characters' lives as complex as possible.

I have managed to pack enough speechifying, righteous ire, hope, tears, and Significant Eye Contact into the one weekend that I *think* I can survive until the next session. It does drive home, though, just how much I miss weekend-long games.

SO glad I went.....

I dug through the drawers and boxes of Stuff That I Keep Around In Case I Might Need It For A Larp Someday, and found a vaguely Victorian-esque blouse. And my angel mother-in-law made me a skirt (seven panels, gorgeous pleating in back, otherwise fairly simple). That was it.

The upside of being a poor dockworker is that I don't need fancy outfits. Of course, the downside of being a poor dockworker is that I don't need fancy outfits.... :)

Oddly enough, I just had someone tell me who you were (not that I could not figure it out from other contacts)...

I play James Napier, Boy Genius, and supplyer of New Artilery to the US Government...

(and I encountered Ladysprite's character, but did not really get to talk with her this game, but should have reason to, given events)

"Sounds like you had a blast.

Did you two get my email about the other car I found?"

I did, but I had rather assumed my sweetie had responded to it, since it would ultimately be his car. Sorry about that....

And sorry it took so long to respond to this; between work, back problems, and other responsibilities I'm being a lousy correspondent lately.

"If he did respond I didn't see it. Though that could easily be me missing the email.

I understand about the 'too busy to reply thing'. Its not a big deal, not like I've been inconvinenced by it."

Reminds me of the fabled Stephen King horror template:

Plot, Plot, Boo!, Sex, Plot, Boo!, Sex!, Boo!, Plot, Boo!, Boo!

He sent this to his editors as a rough outline of his next book when they got on his back.

I can't tell you how great it was to find out you were playing!!! Thanks for the wonderful interactions IC and OOC. You have added yet another dimension of fun to one of my favorite games. Speaking of fun, we should chat at some point because I have a wonderfull idea of how to make you IC life even more complicated and angsty ;)

Be well...

I'd love to chat - there's always room for more angst. :)

Now all I need to do is remember to email you.... :/
