Oh, yeah.

Nothing like a new sewing project to remind me of how incompetent I am.

Every time I finish a sewing project, I rapidly forget how much I don't like sewing, and how frustrating it is, and how not-good I am at it. I'm passable, but that's really not good enough - my perfectionist soul demands more, and my novice fingers can't deliver yet. So I curse and I pound the table in frustration, and I pin and I stitch and I rip out and re-pin and make things worse, and I stitch again.

Sewing living things is so much easier than sewing fabric. Skin heals, skin stretches, skin is incredibly forgiving. If you're sewing skin and the edges don't quite meet, you can just tug a little this way, and push a little that way, and if there's a little pucker at the corner, well, it'll stretch and grow and heal and in a few weeks it'll look as good as new. Once you cut fabric, it stays cut forever. If the seams are bunchy, that'll never go away, not even with antibiotics and Vitamin E oil.

On the other hand, fabric doesn't bleed, and you don't have to worry about your dress dying under anesthesia. Still, on the whole, I think I much prefer stitching things that will eventually grow back together with a little encouragement....

Want to get together and see if we can sort it out, soon?

Possibly - I think I've got the bodice and the lining figured out, but it's not quite as flat and smooth as I like. I think it's just the result of my inexact cutting, though.

Still, there's the skirt to pleat. Depending on how today works out, I might be free Thursday.....

Okay, I think Thursday is good for me, and I'd be happy for the company. Good luck.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to come to my house, instead of vice-versa? I've got a working sewing machine, and it would make it a lot easier to get both the sewing and the baking done that I need to finish tomorrow....

I could do that. I'm just wondering if we'd need to recut the bodice, and if so, do you have a rotary cutter and mat? I find I get more precision with those than I do with scissors. Also, an ironing board and iron? That's probably the most useful. Oh, and I'll have to bring my machine, anyway, since it's the one that will sew eyelets. Unless you want to do those by hand?

I have an ironing board and iron, though I don't have a rotary cutter. I don't *think* we'll need to re-cut the bodice, and I'm not sure we'll have time enough to get to the eyelets - I won't be back from PT until 11:30-ish, and I need to leave by around 4pm to pick up a friend at the airport, and I'll be baking between bouts of sewing.

Mostly, honestly, this is a chance to do a little sewing and a lot of chatting. :)

Current music: the 'Lost' theme on tv

I've been watching for over a year now, and I've never noticed a theme (besides a low rumbly whooshy noise). I am teh unobservant.

It's not much of a song, more the closing-image noise, for lack of a better word.

By the way, I am a bad and unappreciative person - I never thanked you for dropping off the Viking books and the gift! I'm so sorry, and I really do appreciate it. I'm looking forward to making up my character, and playing in the game.

So, thank you, and I'm sorry again!
